RailCats to Host Third Annual Northwest Indiana Asthma Awareness Day

Gary, Ind.—The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club will partner with the Northwest Indiana Partners For Clean Air to host the Third Annual Northwest Indiana Asthma Awareness Day on Tuesday, June 12th at 7:00 p.m. at U. S. Steel Yard.

The Asthma Awareness Day event is part of the Partners for Clean Air year-round air quality public outreach program.  Partners For Clean Air is a coalition of Northwest Indiana industries, businesses, hospitals, local governments, and community groups committed to improving air quality and public health through voluntary action.

The Asthma Awareness Night will serve to increase the public's awareness of  air quality related respiratory problems, further educate parents and children on the value of proper medical treatment for asthma, and demonstrate the connection between regional air quality and  asthma.

The game between the RailCats and the Schaumburg Flyers will start at 7:00 p.m. Before the game, the Partners for Clean Air members will have informational booths set-up providing air quality protection information, asthma health materials, and Partners for Clean Air membership brochures. A live radio broadcast by Indiana 105 will originate at the front gate.  The first 1,000 fans will receive a tote bag.

Prior to the game, area high school athletes will compete in a Home Run Derby with prizes donated by US Steel Gary Works.

Partners for Clean Air members will be providing free tickets to the game for area students with asthma and their families.  For Free tickets and information about the Asthma Awareness Night, contact  The Breath Alliance Foundation at (219) 472-1543.
