Winnipeg, Manitoba—Fehlandt Lentini lined a two-out single to left to drive in Brent Metheny from second base with the tie-breaking run in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Winnipeg Goldeyes went on to defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-2 on Saturday night.  The win was the Goldeyes second straight over the RailCats and kept them two and one-half games behind Calgary in the Northern League's North Division.

The RailCats record fell to 27-12 on the season, one night after clinching the South Division first half title.

Gary took a 2-0 lead in the third when Eric Blakeley singled and scored on Steve Haake's two-out double.  Jose Yepez followed with a single to bring in Haake, but the RailCats could not dent the plate again.

RailCats starting pitcher Travis Kerber was outstanding early, allowing just one base runner over the first three innings.  In the fourth, Winnipeg's Chris Latham connected on a solo home run to make it 2-1, and Anton French drilled a game-tying home run in the sixth off Kerber.

In the seventh, Metheny doubled to left-center with one out off RailCats reliever Brad Mumma (1-2).  After an infield single by Luis Alen, Mumma got Max Poulin to fly to center.  Chad Blackwell replaced Mumma and allowed Lentini's single to left to plate Metheny to give Winnipeg its first lead of the night.

The Goldeyes scored a run against Blackwell in the eighth when Scott Schade singled in French with one out to close out the scoring.  The run ended Blackwell's club-record 21 consecutive scoreless innings streak.

The RailCats had only one base runner after Winnipeg took the lead in the seventh when Jose Yepez walked with two outs in the top eighth, but they could not advance him.

Winnipeg starting pitcher Ben Moore (4-2) worked seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts for the win.  Matt Davis pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save.  Mumma was charged with one run in an inning and one-third of work to absorb the loss.

The loss marked the continuation of the RailCats struggles in Winnipeg.  They fell to 4-24 all-time at CanWest Global Park and 0-9 during manager Greg Tagert's three years with the club.

The RailCats will play at Winnipeg on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.  Willie Glen (6-0, 4.00) will start for Gary against Winnipeg's Glenn Bott (2-3, 4.89).  They RailCats return home on Wednesday, July 4th to host Fargo-Moorhead in the start to a five game set that will conclude the first half in the Northern League's split-season format.

Notes:  Nate Price went 0 for 4 as his eighth game hitting streak came to an end…The RailCats are 6-5 on the current 14 game road trip…The RailCats have scored just three runs in the two games in Winnipeg and have been out-homered 5-0.
