RailCats SIGN FORMER ST. JOSEPH'S, T.F. SOUTH STAR JOE PANOZZO

Gary, Ind.—The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club announced today that pitcher Joe Panozzo has been signed as a free agent. 

 

Panozzo completed his amateur career in 2007 at St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana.  He played high school baseball at Thornton Fractional South in Lansing, Illinois. 

 

Panozzo was selected to the NCAA Division II Rawlings/ABCA All-North Central Region 1^st Team in 2007 at St. Joseph's.  He posted a record of 7-1 with a 1.30 earned run average and seven saves.  He appeared in 20 games.

 

The addition of Panozzo puts the RailCats' roster at the Northern League limit of 22 players.  He fills one of four required "rookie" slots on the roster, joining catcher Brett Wallace, outfielder Dale Mueller, and pitcher Cole Stipovich.  Teams with 22 players must keep a minimum of four rookies on the roster at all times.

 

The RailCats are also expected to activate pitcher Travis Kerber from the disabled list on Thursday and he will start Thursday's 12:30 p.m. game at Fargo-Moorhead.  The addition of Kerber will require a corresponding roster move.  

 

The RailCats, in first place with a 22-8 record, play at Fargo-Moorhead tonight (Wednesday) at 7:00 and Thursday at 12:30 p.m.  They return to Gary on July 4^th.
