Gary, Indiana—The Gary SouthShore RailCats overcame an 8-1 deficit to notch the biggest comeback in team history on Sunday, defeating the Edmonton Cracker-Cats 10-9 at U. S. Steel Yard before a crowd of 5,559. The win was the RailCats sixth straight and improved their 2007 record to 14-3.

David Detienne led the RailCats comeback effort, delivering three hits including a double and triple. His triple in the bottom of the seventh drove in two runs to pull the RailCats to within one at 9-8 and Nate Price followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in Detienne and tie the game.

The RailCats scored the eventual winning run in the eighth when Jay Pecci singled to center, went to second on Jermaine Allensworth's sacrifice bunt and to third on Steve Haake's fly out to center. Pecci scored on a wild pick-off throw to third by Edmonton catcher Adam Shorsher.

Edmonton built their lead by scoring four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth against RailCats starting pitcher Willie Glen. Kyle Nichols, who finished with four hits, connected on a two-run home run in the fourth and Shorsher hit a two-run shot in the fifth.

The RailCats started back in the bottom of the fifth inning when Detienne doubled, went to third on Dale Mueller's bunt single, and scored on Eric McNamee's fielder's choice play. McNamee scored later in the inning on Allensworth's two-out single to make it 8-3.

Edmonton scored another run in the sixth before Gary answered in the bottom of the inning on a two-out single by Detienne, an error, and a run-scoring single by Mueller to make it 9-4.

The RailCats scored five runs in the seventh to tie the game. Jay Pecci tripled to start the inning and scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-5. Allensworth reached on an error and scored on Steve Haake's double to make it 9-6. With one out, Tanner Townsend appeared to ground out to second to bring in Haake, but catcher's interference was called on Shorsher and Townsend was awarded first as Haake was sent back to third. Detienne followed with a looping fly ball just fair down the right field line that eluded the diving right fielder, Sambu Ndungidi, as Haake and Townsend scored and Detienne raced around to third before Price's sacrifice fly tied the game at 9-9.

After Pecci broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth, Edmonton threatened to score in the ninth against RailCats reliever Chad Blackwell. Nichols led off the inning with a double to center. Chris Becker's sacrifice moved the tying run to third with one out, but Blackwell struck out Rhett Teller for the second out. Then Shorsher drilled a line drive that, for the RailCats, was fortunately hit right at third baseman Tanner Townsend to end the game.

Blackwell threw three innings of scoreless relief to improve his record to 3-0. Former major leaguer Lou Pote allowed six runs, all but two unearned, in two innings for the loss to fall to 2-1.

The RailCats had come back from several six-run deficits to win over their history, but had never come back to win a game after trailing by as many as seven.

The RailCats are off on Monday before opening a three game set in Kansas City against the T-Bones on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. (CDT). Josh Habel (2-2, 5.40) will start for Gary against Kansas City's Kenny Derost (1-0, 5.40).

Notes: The RailCats have won 10 of their last 11…The RailCats have come from behind in 10 of their 14 wins…They reached double figures in hits for the ninth straight game and have had at least 12 in eight of the last nine games…Allensworth extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games, the longest of the year for a RailCats player…The RailCats added their 13th and 14th triples of the year through 17 games. The club record for a full season is 25 over 96 games in 2005.
