MEJIA BELTS HOME RUN; BEARS LOSE 1-0 IN GAME ONE
NEWARK, NJ – June 12, 2007 – Road Warriors catcher Manuel Mejia hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to beat the Newark Bears 1-0 in game one of a double-header Tuesday evening at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Despite the loss, starter Gary Knotts (1-4) struck out a 2007 single-season game high 11 batters while tossing a complete game, allowing only one run on five hits.
With one-out in the sixth inning, Mejia belted a 1-0 pitch over the centerfield wall for his second home run of the season. Mejia finished the game 1-for-3.
For the Bears center-fielder Keith Reed, designated hitter Jose Herrera, first baseman Victor Rodriguez, right-fielder Jack Headley, and pinch hitter Joey Gomes each had one hit.
Road Warriors starter Enmanual Ulloa pitched a complete game, seven scoreless innings, while striking out five.
