Gary, Ind.—Josh Habel fired a five hit shutout as the Gary SouthShore RailCats notched their sixth straight victory and tied a club record with their ninth straight home win on Thursday night, defeating the Schaumburg Flyers 3-0 before a crowd of 1,829 at U. S. Steel Yard.  The win improved the RailCats record to 20-6. Schaumburg fell to 11-15 with the loss.

Habel (3-3) walked no one and struck out four while allowing only one runner to reach third base for his first career shutout, the first by a RailCats pitcher during the regular season since Cody Fisher shutout Joliet on August 26, 2005.  Willie Glen tossed a shutout in game one of the 2006 Northern League Championship Series against Fargo-Moorhead.

The RailCats scored two times in the first inning against Schaumburg starter Billy Keppinger (2-2).  Jay Pecci was hit by a pitch with one out and went to third on a double by Jermaine Allensworth.  Steve Haake followed with a liner to center for a base hit to drive in Pecci and Allensworth.

Allensworth led off the Gary fifth inning with a single to right and stole second.  Two outs later, Tanner Townsend ripped a double to left-center field to bring in Allensworth and make it 3-0 to close out the scoring.

Habel threw 116 pitches in his second straight strong start.  He allowed just one run in seven innings Saturday against Joliet.

The RailCats finished with 10 hits.  Nate Price went 3 for 4 with a stolen base and Haake had two hits and two runs batted in.

The RailCats matched their club record nine game home winning streak that began in August, 2006 as they won their final eight home games of last season and then won their first home game of 2007.  They will look to break the record when they host the Kansas City T-Bones in the first game of a three game series at U. S. Steel Yard on Friday at 7:00 p.m.  Jim Paduch (3-0, 3.77) will pitch for Gary against Kansas City's Chris Krawczyk (0-0, 2.59).  A fireworks spectacular will follow the game, sponsored by Krazy Kaplans and the Post-Tribune.

Notes:  The RailCats placed pitcher Jason Shelley on the inactive list prior to Thursday's game and signed infielder Eric Blakeley as a free agent…RailCats pitchers have posted a 1.58 ERA during the six game winning streak games after allowing 19 runs in the last loss last Thursday in Kansas City…Townsend extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games.
