GRIZZLIES WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT
The Gateway Grizzlies got a strong start from Toro Trevino Tuesday night, and some key hits en route to a 3-1 victory over the River City Rascals in front of 3,918 at GCS Ballpark.
Trevino (5-0) went seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits. He struck out four and walked two.
The Rascals (11-22) got on the board in the fourth with an RBI-single from Phil Laurent. Andrew Sweet scored after singling to lead off the inning, and stealing second base.
The Grizzlies (24-9) answered in the bottom of the inning. Dustin Roberts walked with one out and Stephen Holdren followed with an RBI triple to the left-center field gap. Holdren finished 2-3.
Solo home runs by Manny Paula in the fifth and Charlie Lisk in the seventh sealed the win for the Grizzlies.
Chris Clem (0-3) took the loss for the Rascals. Clem went seven innings, allowing all three runs on just five Grizzlies' hits. He struck out eight.
River City managed two hits in the ninth off of Grizzlies' closer Eric Ridener before he shut the door on the Rascals' chances. Ridener struck out two in the inning to earn his league-leading ninth save of the year.
The Grizzlies and Rascals conclude the short series with a 7:05 p.m. game Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark.
