GRIZZLIES WALK-OFF WITH WIN

Stephen Holdren and Greg Andrews hit back-to-back home runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday night as the Gateway Grizzlies (21-9) defeated the Kalamazoo Kings (18-12) 8-7 in front of 5,092 at GCS Ballpark.

The Grizzlies trailed 7-4 going into the ninth inning.  The win snapped the Kings' nine-game winning streak.

Holdren's shot, a three-run liner to right, was his eighth of the year.  It followed walks to Jesse Acosta and Dustin Roberts.  Andrews, a high towering drive to left, came on the first pitch he saw on the night.  Andrews had entered the game in the eighth inning as a defensive replacement.  Holdren was 2-4 with the game-tying shot.

James Hertel (3-1) earned the win in relief.  Hertel pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.

The Grizzlies took an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning.  Jonathan Armitage and Dustin Roberts each picked up RBIs to put the Grizzlies up 2-0.  Armitage finished the night 4-5 with two RBIs.

The Kings took a 3-2 lead in the second inning with three runs on two hits off of Grizzlies starter Justin Roelle.  Roelle lasted just three innings.  He allowed four runs on three hits.

The Grizzlies would add a single run in the second.  The Kings got one in the third, two in the fourth and another in the sixth to go up 7-3.  The Grizzlies got another run in the seventh when Mike Breyman drove in Armitage from second.  Breyman was 2-4 with the RBI.

The Grizzlies and Kings will play the second game of the three-game series Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.  Nathan Roush (2-3) will start for the Grizzlies.
