GRIZZLIES WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT
The Gateway Grizzlies slugged past the Kalamazoo Kings 13-9 Saturday night in front of 5,214 at GCS Ballpark.
The Grizzlies (22-9) got home runs form Chris Gibson, Greg Andrews and Stephen Holdren en route to the season-high 13 runs.
Gibson's homer, his first as a professional, put the Grizzlies on top 6-2 after three innings. Gibson was 1-4 for the night.
The Kings (18-13) answered with a five-run fourth inning off of Grizzlies' starter Nathan Roush, who didn't last the inning. He went just 3.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits. The Kings would add to win the fifth to go up 9-6.
Andrews homer, his third of the year and second in as many nights, came with Holdren on base and pulled the Grizzlies within one at 9-8 in the fifth. Andrews was 2-5.
Holdren's long ball, a two-run shot, was part of a three-run seventh to put the Grizzlies on top for good at 11-9. Manny Paula also added an RBI on a double in the inning. He was 3-6.
The Grizzlies' sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Gibson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Charlie Lisk followed with an RBI-single.
Brandon Kellbach (5-0) got the win in relief for the Grizzlies. Kellbach pitched two perfect innings. He struck out one.
The Grizzlies and Kings conclude the series with a 3:05 start Sunday afternoon at GCS Ballpark.
