GRIZZLIES HOMER THEIR WAY TO SERIES WIN

The Gateway Grizzlies (20-9) homered their way to a 8-5 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums (12-17) Thursday afternoon in front of 5,284 at GCS Ballpark.  The Grizzlies took four of the six meetings between the two teams.

The Grizzlies hit three round trippers on the afternoon, including back-to-back homers in the first.  Jonathan Armitage hit his fourth of the year, a three-run shot to put the Grizzlies up 3-0.  Armitage was 2-5.  Dustin Roberts followed with his team-leading ninth of the year to make it 4-0 Grizzlies.  Beach Bums starter Robbie McClellan left the game after the home run from Roberts with arm troubles.

The Beach Bums answered with three runs of their own in the fifth.  The runs came on three hits off of Grizzlies starter Chris Little (3-1).  Little tossed 5.1 innings allowing the three runs on nine hits.  He struck out five and walked four.

The Grizzlies added two runs in the sixth on another long ball. Charlie Lisk hit his second of the year to put the Grizzlies up 6-3.  The Grizzlies got a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth when Manny Paula doubled to right to score two with two outs in the inning.  Paula was 3-5.

The Beach Bums notched two in the top of the ninth off of Grizzlies closer Eric Ridener.  The two runs were the first allowed by Ridener all season.  The Beach Bums stranded two on base when the game ended.

The Grizzlies continue the home stand with a three-game series against Kalamazoo beginning Friday night at GCS Ballpark.  Game time Friday is 7:05 p.m.
