GOMES, ROBERTSON POWER BEARS PAST ROAD WARRIORS

NEWARK, NJ – June 18, 2007 – Newark Bears designated hitter Joey Gomes finished the game 2-for-4 including his third home run of the season and four RBI, and starter Jeriome Robertson (2-1) lasted eight innings allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits as the Bears defeated the Road Warriors 7-3 Monday evening at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. With the win, the Bears have won five of their last seven games and improved their record to 22-21.

Following a double by right-fielder Jack Headley and a single by first baseman Joe Jiannetti, Gomes belted a three-run home run with one out in the bottom of the second inning to give the Bears an early 3-0 lead. Jiannetti also ended the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

With the Bears leading 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, center-fielder Keith Reed and shortstop Josh Arteaga each hit RBI doubles giving the Bears a 6-1 advantage.

Road Warriors left-fielder Jason Bryan led the Road Warriors offense going 2-for-4 including his seventh home run of the season, one run scored, and two RBI, while center-fielder Travis Ezi also hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning for his first of the season.

Road Warriors starter Carlos Castillo (2-4) took the loss after surrendering six runs, three earned, on seven hits in 6.2 innings pitched.

The Bears and Road Warriors will continue the three-game series with game two Tuesday evening at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 PM. Bobby Brownlie (3-3) will take the mound for the Bears against left-hander Damien Myers (0-3) for the Road Warriors. Gates open at 4:05 PM to Two for Tuesdays.
