Gary, Ind.—Willie Glen struck out 11 batters over seven strong innings and Mike Reese drilled a two-run home run to lead the Gary SouthShore RailCats to a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones on Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 4,378 at U. S. Steel Yard.  The win was the RailCats first in six meetings with the T-Bones this season and allowed them to avoid a sweep of the three game set.  Gary improved its record to 21-8 for the year and extended their lead to eight games over Kansas City in the Northern League South Division with 19 games to play in the first half race.  The T-Bones fell to 13-16 with the loss.

Reese connected on his first home run of the season in the third inning, a two-run shot to left that gave the RailCats their first lead of the series at 2-0.  Reese led off the Gary fifth inning with a single to left and went to second when Dale Mueller walked.  Eric Blakeley sacrificed the runners to second and third and Jay Pecci followed with a ground rule double to right to make it 4-0.

Meanwhile, Glen cruised the first six innings without allowed a runner past second base.  In the seventh, he allowed his first walk of the day before Nelson Gord launched a two-out home run to left to make it 4-2.  It was Gord's second run of the season and second in two days against the RailCats.

As it has been most of the season, the RailCats bullpen was outstanding.  After Glen reached his pitch limit after seven innings, Brad Mumma pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Tony Cogan worked a perfect ninth for his league-leading ninth save.  RailCats relievers have allowed just one run over the last nine games covering 25 innings.

Glen (5-0) threw 111 pitches over seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs with one walk and 11 strikeouts, one short of his career high.

The RailCats will travel to Fargo, North Dakota on Monday and open a 14 game, 15 day road trip Tuesday against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 7:00 p.m.  Josh Habel (3-3, 4.36) will start for Gary against F-M's Brandon Goltz (2-0, 2.93).  The RailCats return home on July 4th.

Notes:  Glen is on pace to shatter the all-time Northern League record for strikeouts in a season.  He improved his career record with the RailCats to 25-8…The RailCats bullpen is a combined 10-2 on the year with a league-leading 10 saves in 12 save opportunities…Left-handed batters are just 2 for 21 against Mumma on the year…RailCats second baseman Eric McNamee got his first day off of the season.  He had missed only one defensive inning prior to Sunday's game.  Eric Blakeley got the start at second base.
