DUCKS BEAT BEARS IN EXTRA-INNINGS 8-7
NEWARK, NJ – June 26, 2007 – Long Island Ducks first baseman P.J. Rose hit an infield RBI single in the top of the tenth inning to defeat the Newark Bears 8-7 Tuesday evening at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Despite the loss, the Bears came from one run, two run, and three run deficits.
Damian Rolls, who entered the game in the eighth inning to play leftfield, led off the tenth inning with a double, followed by a single through the right-side by shortstop Edgardo Alfonzo moving Rolls to third. Rose hit a soft bouncer to the pitcher Edwin Almonte who couldn’t get to it before Rolls scored the go ahead run.
The Bears came back from a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run by catcher John Pachot, his first of the season, and a two-run home run by right-fielder Keith Reed, his tenth of the season to take a 3-2 lead.
After falling behind 6-3 in the top of the fifth inning, the Bears again came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning led by a two-run double by first baseman Victor Rodriguez. Trailing 7-6 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Pachot singled to score designated hitter Joey Gomes from third base to tie the game.
Pachot ended the game 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI, while Reed finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Bears offense. For the Ducks, third baseman Bryant Nelson went 2-for-4 with two two-run home runs for his first two of the season, and right-fielder Kevin Haverbusch went 2-for-4 including a two-run home run for his seventh of the season.
