Chicago Fire Soccer Presents AbilityCAMP on June 30

Disabled youth to experience soccer at Argo Community High School

BRIDGEVIEW, IL (June 22) - The FireWorks for Kids Foundation and the National Sports Center for the Disabled team together again to hold the third Chicago Fire Soccer AbilityCAMP for kids with physical and developmental disabilities on Saturday, June 30, at Argo Community High School from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. CT.  AbilityCAMP provides disabled youth with the chance to experience the sport of soccer.

The complimentary, interactive camp allows kids, ages six to 18, with all types of disabilities to gain experience playing soccer.  The fun-filled event will include instruction and skill development, use of equipment, games, prizes, and end with a snack.  Chicago Fire players, coaches, and the official mascot of the Fire, Sparky, could make an appearance.

“With Sparky Soccer and the AbilityCAMP, we feel that the Fire has one of the greatest support in the league and in the country,” says Sparky Soccer program coordinator Ryan Willox.  “We feel that we have really close ties to our community and the AbilityCAMP and our programs with Sparky Soccer are just something we do in an attempt to give back to the community that supports us so passionately.  The FireWorks For Kids is committed to providing opportunities for all kids, so it is important for us to provide something like the AbilityCAMP to get kids playing.”

The camp is free, but the kids must be registered beforehand to participate. To register a child for the program, log onto http://www.nscd.org/programs/abilitycamp_fire.htm.

AbilityCAMP is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. CT with registration and check-in.  Kids will participate in a skills clinic for an hour and a half before wrapping up the event with snacks and prizes.  Participants need to bring a water bottle, tennis shoes, and a smile.

Last year over 60 families took part in the AbilityCAMP to learn basic drills and met the mascot Sparky, as well as the United States National Team Paralympics coach, Jay Hoffman.
