‘FISH SHUTOUT CAUSES ROAD RAGE

 

Bluefish pitcher Eric Junge (1-1) picks up his first win of the season as the ‘Fish shut out the Road Warriors 12-0.  Catcher Marcos Sanchez and Designated Hitter Lou Lucca both shined in their first home games since joining the Bluefish earlier this week.

 

The Bridgeport offense was a juggernaut, as five Bluefish recorded multi-hit games.  Quinton McCracken stole the show, smacking a three-run home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the fourth and plated five total throughout the game. 

 

Lucca (2-5, HR, R, 3 RBIs), Bobby Malek (2-5, R), Jesse Hoorelbeke (2-4, R, RBI), and Sanchez (3-4, 2 R, RBI) rounded out the powerful offense.  The ‘Fish initiated the onslaught with five runs in the bottom of the second, and then lit up the board with three more in the fourth.  During the bottom of the sixth, newbie Lou Lucca slammed the ball over the left field wall to bring the score to 11-0 as McCracken and Junior Spivey were brought in. 

 

The defense was well at work during the game also.  In back-to-back innings, Hoorelbeke and shortstop Nick Ortiz made two well executed double plays in which Hoorelbeke drove it to second and Ortiz shelled it right back to first.  The Warriors defense struggled however, as they recorded five errors during the game.

 

Cody Harkcom (1-3) recorded the loss giving up eight runs, four earned, in four innings of work.  Junge went seven strong innings, allowing only four hits and struck out five.  The Bluefish pen was able to hold down the shutout as Evan Fahrner and Eddy Ramos both saw late game action.
