Angel Gets 1,000 as Fish Sweep Warriors
Angel Espada records his 1,000th career hit during his second at bat and starting pitcher Matt Beech records his fifth win while the Bluefish overtake the Road Warriors 11-3, sweeping the series.
The ‘Fish bats ignited in the second inning beginning with a Bobby Malek walk and a Jesse Hoorelbeke (3-4, 2 R, RBI) bloop single. Red hot Jay Caligiuri (3-4, 3 R, 4 RBIs) then ripped a shot down the third base line plating Malek. It was then that Angel Espada shot one up the middle recording his 1,000th career hit, and scored Hoorelbeke and Caligiuri in the process.
The unstoppable bats of the Bluefish stayed hot during the third inning. Junior Spivey started it off with a double, and was later driven in by the bat of Nick Ortiz. The Malek, Caligiuri, and Hoorelbeke trio all scored again off of Caligiuri’s blast over the left field fence, bouncing off the arena.
The Bluefish padded their lead in the seventh and eighth innings. In the eighth Caligiuri was driven in once more by McCracken’s RBI single also bringing Shaun Boyd home. Beech (5-2) went seven strong innings allowing only three runs while both Steven Kent and Evan Fahrner each had one scoreless inning of relief.
The Road Warriors stand-outs were Sandy Aracena and ex-Bluefish Norm Hutchins, both going two-for-four. Norm showed his power in the top of the seventh with a rip down the right field line recording his fifth double of the season.
With this win the Bluefish are now a ½ game up in the North Division, passing by the Long Island Ducks for first. The Bluefish take a break tomorrow to return on Tuesday to face-off against the archrival Long Island Ducks. The Tuesday game is Two-for-One Tuesday with two-for-one specials on tickets and select food items. The game starts at 7:05 P.M.
