FLYERS TAKE OFF WITH A 4-2 WIN ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON
JACKHAMMERS TAKE TWO OF THREE IN SERIES
SCHAUMBURG, IL-The Schaumburg Flyers (13-19) scored four runs over the first three innings to beat the Joliet JackHammers 4-2 before 7,281 fans at ALEXIAN Field on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, the JackHammers (13-19) finish off their six-game road trip and now return home to take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Friday night at Silver Cross Field at 7:05 p.m.
The Flyers scored runs in each of the first three innings against JackHammers right-handed pitcher Raymond Jenkins (0-4). In the first inning, Demetrius Heath (2-3) led off the inning with a single and stole second and third base. He scored on a wild pitch to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
The JackHammers got on the board in the third inning when they cut the Flyers lead down to two runs at 3-1. Anthony Monegan (1-4) reached base on a one-out single and scored when Cory Harris (2-4) hit an RBI double.
The Flyer scored one run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch by Jenkins, who lasted four innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. He walked two men and struck out five.
Loose Gravel: Two JackHammers made their first appearances of the 2007 season in Thursday’s game. Catcher Eric Zeedyk (0-4) made his first start of the 2007 season, going 0-4. He started in place of Dennis Blackmon, who got his first day off after starting 14 consecutive games behind the plate.
Rookie left-hander Justin Fiske made his professional debut by pitching two scoreless innings. He struck out one and allowed one hit. He was signed to a contract on Tuesday, June 19 after finishing his college career this past spring at
The JackHammers now take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. It’s another Friday Night Fireworks Display at Silver Cross Field with a fireworks display following the game presented by Aramark! If you cannot attend the game, you can catch the action on the JackHammers Broadcast Network beginning with the pre-game show at 6:50. The Goldeyes will start right-handed pitcher Greg Bicknell (0-2, 4.98). The JackHammers will counter will Nick Renault (4-1, 3.89).
