JACKHAMMERS SCORE A SINGLE-GAME HIGH 16 RUNS IN A 16-4 WIN OVER THE REDHAWKS
FARGO, ND-The Joliet JackHammers (18-22) scored 12 runs in innings three through five and got at least one hit from every member of their starting lineup to pound out 16 runs and 22 hits in a 16-4 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (21-18) at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday night. The JackHammers earned their first victory over the RedHawks in 2007.
The JackHammers scored one run in the second inning against Fargo-Moorhead starting pitcher Mike Peschel (5-3). Derek Nicholson (2-3) hit a one-out double and after Chad Ehrnsberger (2-4) worked a walk, Nicholson scored on a bloop single to left field to give the JackHammers a 1-0 lead.
The RedHawks tied the game in the second inning thanks to an RBI double by Mike Just (1-3). Darryl Lawhorn (1-4) hit a one-out single against JackHammers starting pitcher Nate Sevier (6-1) before Just laced a double to tie the game at 1-1.
Tim Hutting followed with a two-run single to score Diaz and Nicholson and make it 5-1
The JackHammers pushed across four runs in the fourth inning to take an 11-1 lead. Erhnsberger’s two-run single was the JackHammers highlight of the inning.
The lead jumped to 13-1 with a two-run fifth inning. Harris hit a solo home run over the left field wall for his fifth home run of the season. The JackHammers scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make it 15-1.
Harris hit a solo home run over the left field wall in the eighth inning to give the JackHammers a 16-1 lead. The RedHawks scored three runs in the eighth inning to round out the scoring at 16-4.
Harris finished the game 3-5 with two solo home runs, a single and three RBI. Sevier worked seven innings to pick up his sixth win of the season. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out five.
Loose Gravel: The 16 runs are the most scored by the JackHammers in a single game in 2007. The JackHammers previous high for runs scored came in a 13-3 JackHammers lead.
The JackHammers and RedHawks play game three of their five-game series on Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. The JackHammers will start right-handed pitcher Matt Smith (1-4, 5.63) against RedHawks right-handed hurler Gerrit Simpson (1-4, 5.55).
