REDHAWKS WALK OFF WITH A 4-3 VICTORY IN 10 INNINGS

FARGO, ND-The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (21-17) beat the Joliet JackHammers (17-22) 4-3 in 10 innings thanks to an error that allowed Brian Munhall to score from third base and give the RedHawks a “walk-off” win before 3,579 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night.

Fargo-Moorhead pushed across one run in the first inning against JackHammers starting pitcher Brian Forystek. Kory Wayment (2-4) earned a one-out walk and moved to second base when Forystek over-threw JackHammers first baseman Juan Diaz on a pickoff attempt. Tydus Meadows (0-2) followed with a walk and after Richard Austin (0-5) popped out, Ruben Salazar (1-3) hit an RBI single to score Wayment and give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.

The RedHawks pushed across another run in the third inning against Forystek. Wayment led off the inning with a single and went to second base on a wild pitch. Meadows worked a walk and then Austin hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Wayment to move to third base.

Salazar hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Wayment and increase the RedHawks lead to 2-0.

Fargo-Moorhead’s lead jumped to 3-0 in the fourth inning. RedHawks second baseman Mike Just (2-5)  reached base on a fielder’s choice and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Mathis hit an RBI single to score Mathis from second base and give Fargo-Moorhead a 3-0 advantage.

The JackHammers tied the game with three runs in the sixth inning against RedHawks starting pitcher Dane Renkert. Anthony Monegan (0-4) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second base when home plate umpire Hank Himmanen called Renkert for a balk. He more to third base on a wild pitch and scored when Chris Brown (2-4) pulled a two-run home run over the left field wall. The JackHammers were within one run at 3-2.

Juan Diaz (3-4) followed with his team-leading ninth home run to tie the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, Munhall worked a one-out walk against JackHammers RHP Matt Petrusek (0-2). Munhall moved to second base on a passed ball assessed to the JackHammers catcher Dennis Blackmon. Just followed with a single to left field that bounced off the glove of JackHammers left fielder Eric Scriven and allowed the winning run to score.

Loose Gravel: Renkert’s balk was the first against a pitcher facing the JackHammers in 2007. JackHammers RHP Nate Sevier was called for a balk in Kansas City in the JackHammers first road trip in early June.
