JACKHAMMERS USE THREE HOME RUNS TO BEAT THE SCHAUMBURG FLYERS 5-2 ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT

 

SCHAUMBURG, IL-The Joliet JackHammers (13-18) hit three home runs to beat the Schaumburg Flyers (12-19) 5-2 before 4,310 fans on Wednesday night at ALEXIAN Field. Juan Diaz (1-4), Dennis Blackmon (2-4) and Chris Brown (1-5) each hit home runs to provide the JackHammers with their second consecutive victory. With the win, Joliet is now in third place in the Northern League South Division.

 

The Flyers scored two runs on a two-run home run in the first inning against JackHammers right-handed pitcher Matt Smith (1-3). Christian Snavely (1-2) hit a two-out double and scored when Pat O'Sullivan (1-4) launched his second home run of the season. The Flyers took a 2-0 lead.

 

Joliet scored four runs on four hits in the second inning against Flyers left-handed starting pitcher Billy Keppinger (2-3). Diaz hit a solo home run to lead off the inning and Derek Nicholson (2-4) followed with a single to right field. Tim Hutting (2-4) hit an RBI double to score Nicholson and tie the game at 2-2.

 

Blackmon hit his second home run in as many nights when he launched a two-run home run over the outfield wall in left centerfield later in the second inning. The JackHammers took a 4-2 lead.

 

Brown led off the fifth inning with a solo home run against Keppinger to give the JackHammers a 5-2 lead.

 

Loose Gravel: Derrick Ellison pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his second save of the 2007 season. Ellison pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings against the Kansas City T-Bones on June 1 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark for his first save of the 2007 season.  

 

The JackHammers and Flyers wrap up their three-game series Thursday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. RHP Raymond Jenkins (0-3, 4.78) gets the start for Joliet.
