SEVIER TOSSES A COMPLETE-GAME SHUTOUT IN A 4-0 JACKHAMMERS WIN IN SCHAUMBURG

SCHAUMBURG, IL-Joliet JackHammers right-handed pitcher Nick Renault pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout and Dennis Blackmon (1-4) hit a two-run home run to help the Joliet JackHammers beat the Schaumburg Flyers 4-0 before 4,428 fans at ALEXIAN Field on Tuesday night. With the win, the JackHammers (12-18) snap a four-game losing streak and are tied with the Flyers for third place in the Northern League South Division.

The JackHammers scored first when catcher Blackmon hit a two-run home run over the left field wall against Flyers starting pitcher Ryan Harris (1-4) in the fourth inning. Derek Nicholson (1-4) led off the inning with a single and was retired on a fielder's choice when Chad Ehrnsberger (2-5) reached first base. Tim Hutting (3-5) struck out and then Blackmon stepped up to the plate and launched a two-run home run. The JackHammers took a 2-0 lead.

Joliet took a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning when Hutting laced an RBI single to score Nicholson from third base. Nicholson reached base on a one-out walk and went to third base on a double by Ehrnsberger. Hutting followed with a line-drive RBI single to left field to drive in Nicholson from third base.

In the ninth inning, Cory Harris (2-4) was hit by a pitch and proceeded to steal second base. Juan Diaz (1-3) hit a single to move Harris to third base. Ehrnsberger hit an RBI single to score Harris and finish off the scoring at 4-0.

Sevier (5-1) struck out seven men and walked only one. He joins Nick Renault as the only two JackHammers pitchers to toss complete games in 2007. Reanult pitched a complete-game; five-hit shutout over the Kansas City T-Bones at Silver Cross Field on June 12 in a game the JackHammers won 5-0.

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers placed C Kevin Sullivan on the disabled list before the game retroactive to June 4. He has been out of action since then because of a cracked rib. Before the game, the JackHammers signed LHP Justin Fiske out of Texas State University (NCAA Division 1 Southland Conference, San Marcos, TX). Fiske (pronounced Fisk) stands five feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. He makes his off-season home in College Station, Texas. He went 9-3 with a 2.01 ERA in 19 appearances in his senior season this past spring.
