Gary, Ind.—Reliever James Morrison thwarted a RailCats comeback rally by getting back-to-back strikeouts with the tying run at third base in the eighth inning and the Schaumburg Flyers went on to defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 8-6 on Tuesday at U. S. Steel Yard before a crowd of 1,229.

Schaumburg built a 5-0 lead over the first innings, scoring four times against RailCats starter Josh Habel (0-2) and then adding a single run against reliever Jarod Brown in the fifth. The run against Brown was the first run allowed by the Gary bullpen this season.

The RailCats started back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring one run when Dale Mueller singled and eventually scored from second on a two-out error by Schaumburg right fielder Billy Malone.

The RailCats added three more runs in the seventh, keyed by Eric McNamee's one-out double and an RBI single by Jay Pecci as Gary pulled to within a run at 5-4.

But Schaumburg's Dario Delgado drilled a two-run single with two outs in the top of the eighth to again give the Flyers a three run lead at 7-4.

The RailCats answered with back-to-back run scoring singles by McNamee and Pecci in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-6, but with the tying run at third and potential winning run at first, Morrison struck out Jermaine Allensworth for the second out of the inning and followed that with a strikeout of Steve Haake to end the threat.

Schaumburg added another run in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Flyers starter Ryan Harris (1-0) went six and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and four runs (one earned) with two walks and three strikeouts for the win.

The RailCats conclude the series with the Flyers at U. S. Steel Yard Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Jim Paduch will start for Gary against Schaumburg's Billy Keppinger. The RailCats will embark on a seven game Canadian road trip beginning Friday night at Edmonton.
