Gary, Ind.—Four stolen bases in the seventh inning led to a seven run frame as the Gary SouthShore RailCats battled back from a three run deficit to defeat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 8-3 on Saturday night before a crowd of 2,946 at U. S. Steel Yard. The RailCats have won two of three games in the series that will conclude Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Gary.

Winnipeg jumped ahead 3-0 in the third against RailCats starting pitcher Travis Kerber. Jimmy Hurst's run-scoring single with one out got the Goldeyes on the board. Walter Young followed Hurst to the plate and hit a ground ball to second that was mishandled by Eric McNamee for an error as another run scored. Chris Latham's ground out brought in another run.

Jim Paduch replaced Kerber on the mound to start the fourth inning and tossed four scoreless frames as the RailCats battled back. Paduch allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out three.

Gary got on the board in the sixth. Steve Haake and Jose Yepez were both hit by pitches to start the rally. One batter later, David Detienne singled up the middle to bring in Haake from second and make it 3-1.

In the Gary seventh, Mike Reese led off with a double to left and scored on McNamee's single to make it 3-2. After McNamee stole second, Jay Pecci singled to left to bring him in and tie the game. Jermaine Allensworth walked and stole second before Haake was again hit by a pitch to load the bases. Yepez followed with a sacrifice fly to score Pecci and give Gary a 4-3 lead. Tanner Townsend singled to left to drive in Allensworth and move Haake to second. Haake stole third and Townsend stole second before Detienne walked to again load the bases. Nate Price delivered a double to right to drive in both Haake and Townsend and make it 7-3. Then Reese, batting for the second time in the inning, hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Detienne and make it 8-3 and close out the scoring.

Paduch (1-0) earned the win. Ryan Ariail (0-1) allowed base hits to all three he faced in the seventh and was charged with three runs to suffer the loss for Winnipeg.

Townsend had three hits while McNamee, Pecci, and Reese had two hits apiece to lead a 12-hit RailCats attack.

The RailCats host the Goldeyes again on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the series finale at the Steel Yard. Jason Shelley, who set the RailCats club record for wins in a season last year, will start for the RailCats. Schaumburg will visit Gary for a three game series starting Monday at 10:30 a.m.
