JACKHAMMERS WIN 5-0 ON WEDNESDAY; TAKE TWO OUT OF THREE AGAINST THE GOLDEYES

JOLIET-RF Joe Gaetti (1-4) his 3^rd home run in as many games and RHP Nate Sevier (2-2) tossed seven scoreless innings to help the Joliet JackHammers (29-50) to a 5-0 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes (47-30) before 5,382 fans at Silver Cross Field on Wednesday night.

The JackHammers scored an early run in the 1^st inning against Winnipeg RHP Ace Walker (9-5). 3B Vince Harrison (3-4) hit a two-out single and scored when LF Brad Correll (0-2) reached base on an error after Winnipeg LF Dee Brown dropped his line drive. Joliet took a 1-0 lead.

In the 3^rd inning Joliet took advantage of some sweet swinging by Gaetti to take a 4-0 lead. Harrison smacked a two-out single and Correll reached base with a walk. Gaetti smacked a three-run home run over the left field wall to take a 4-0 Joliet lead. He hit two home runs in the 1^st game of the series in Joliet’s 8-3 win on Monday.

The home club struck again for an insurance run in the 4^th inning. RF Tim Alberts (2-3) hit a single and moved to second base on a single by C Christian Lopez (1-3). Harrison hit a single to score Alberts for a 5-0 Joliet lead.

Sevier allowed just four hits while walking three men and striking out five. RHP Chad Blackwell worked a scoreless 8^th inning and RHP Drew Shetrone nailed down the win with a perfect 9^th inning.

The JackHammers take Thursday off and start a three-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Friday night at Silver Cross Field at 7:05 p.m. It’s Fireworks after the game sponsored by Aramark. The JackHammers will also host Parrothead Night at the ballpark. RHP Matt Mossey (2-1, 4.80) gets the start for the RedHawks against RHP Rory Shortell (3-5, 5.38) for the JackHammers. GRIZZLIES EDGE BEACH BUMS IN GAME TWO

TRAVERSE CITY, MI-The Gateway Grizzlies didn’t have a hit Wednesday night until the seventh inning. They used four seventh-inning hits to score three times and held on for a 3-2 win over the Traverse City beach Bums in the second game of a three-game series at Wuerfel Park.

The Grizzlies improve to 31-42 with the win. Traverse City falls to 33-41 with the loss.

Trailing 2-0 going into the inning, Charlie Lisk lined a one-out single to right field to break up David Dinelli’s no-hitter and set the stage for the Grizzlies’ seventh inning rally. Jareck West followed with a double, before Brandon Johnson walked to load the bases. Danny Morrow struck out for the second out in the inning. Chad Rothford then pinch-hit for catcher Jonathan Quigley. Rothford, suffering from a hamstring strain, was forced to hit left-handed against left-handed reliever Shawn Joy. It didn’t matter. Rothford lined a two-our, two-run single to center to tie the game 2-2. Peter Tountas then singled to right to score Brandon Johnson with the eventual winning run. It was Toutas’ second RBI in as many nights.

Dinelli retired the first 14 hitters he faced in the game, and had retired 21 of 23 hitters he faced coming into the seventh inning. He falls to 1-5 with the loss.

Christian Castorri (2-1) pitched eight innings for the win. He allowed only two runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out one. Joel Boeschen pitched the ninth for his sixth save of the year. Boeschen pitched around a walk and an error for the save.

The Grizzlies and the Beach Bums conclude the series Thursday night in Traverse City. First pitch is set for 6:05 central time.

For just $13.00 per family member, the package includes tickets to the game, fireworks after the game, a movie on the video board along with popcorn, a drink and donuts in the morning.
